3 Woods Suited for your Woodstove

Not every piece of wood you find is going to be well suited to throw on the fire. Some can spit, burn too fast and release harmful toxins. This is why we’re going to let you in on three of the best.

Rowan: Thisis good firewood that burns hot and slow, making it more than suitable for a woodstove. It’s the type of wood you can use without fear, and it never looks as though it’s going to get out of control.

Eucalyptus: This is packed with oils but that’s what makes for its pleasant smell, and again this is another wood that doesn’t spit. It’s also hard to split but many people will cut a log of Eucalyptus into rings and burn it unseasoned.

Holly: This is a wood that you can burn when it’s green but you’re a lot better off if you leave it to dry for a significant period of time, perhaps 10-12 months. You need a fair bit of it though because it is fast burning, but it doesn’t give off the most extraordinary amount of heat.
