Buying a multi-fuel wood burning stove

As the weather becomes warmer, this article may seem to be rather irrelevant.  However, if you are considering buying either a wood burning stove or a multi-fuel burning stove, then this is the time of year when you may find some good bargains amongst retailers.

There are several things to consider first before installing a wood burning stove.  If you have a large room to heat then you will need a bigger stove to give you larger heat output.  Do you also require the stove to heat water?  It may be possible to fit a back boiler or use an existing back boiler.

It is very advisable to have the chimney swept.  You may need to get your chimney lined before installing a stove, although that is not always the case.  Some householders prefer to have a long flue visible as the flue will also give off heat into a room.  Give some consideration to the fuel that you are going to use.  Are you mainly going to burn logs or do you also want to burn coal?  If you live in a built-up area then you will also need to comply with smoke emission regulations.

Before parting with money to buy your new stove, do take advice from the supplier as they may even have questions that you haven’t even considered yet and they will have the expertise to advise you on the best stove for your needs.
