The mayor of London calls for ban on wood-burning stoves

This has to be the biggest news in the stove industry for some time, and it all comes as the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, calls for a ban on wood-burning stoves.

He has referenced figures showing that the home stoves used in 16% of households, produce up to a third of all the capital’s fine-particle pollution, and he feels as though the easy answer is to ban them all. As expected, many stove manufacturers are outraged whilst some have laughed off his claims saying it would never happen. Defra has weighed in already and said they are determined to improve air quality and have put in place a £3bn plan to reduce roadside emissions, whilst they are also raising consumer awareness about the impact of burning wood on health and working with industry to help reduce harmful emissions. That would be a much better next step. Calling for a ban on such a British and London tradition is frankly ridiculous. Imagine those classic pubs without a warming traditional stove in the winter. Sadiq Khan frankly has not got a clue!
